Swingin' Easy

Swingin' Easy

2012, painted steel
10’ x 9.5’ x 6’

In 2010 at my winter studio in Austin TX, I began creating a series of maquettes comprised of twisted planes of various dimensions. These models were fabricated from acrylic sheet (Plexiglas) which I heated and then formed. Next, I had to devise a way to cold form them in heavy steel plate. I spent months designing and fabricating bending jigs to fit in my 150 ton hydraulic press.

The title from the jazz standard, “Swingin’ Easy” suggests forms which appear to be moving / swinging in a way that seems quite effortless.
